that of Microsoft Surface line Laptop and Desktop Computers is known for its stunning design, innovative form factors, great input options, and Windows 10 integration that make them great options for creative and productivity tasks. At the same time, Surface is also known for another of its attributes: the price. Surface prices range from the very low end of the high end segment to the stratosphere.

This probably cut in Surface sales, which were essentially flat in Microsoft’s Q2 2018 earnings report despite the release of the new Surface Laptop and Surface Book 2. It is possible that pricing had an impact on these results, and perhaps in response, Microsoft has introduced two new versions of these machines designed to make them affordable for more users.

The first is the Surface Laptop, which added a new low-end seventh-generation Intel Core m3 processor to the mix. When configured with 4 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD, which are the only options, the laptop now costs $ 800. That’s a complete reduction of $ 200 from the previous entry-level offering of a Core i5, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD, offering significant savings for a reduction in overall performance. You’ll be somewhat limited in the pizzazz though, as Microsoft only offers this setup in one color, Platinum.

Next is the 13.5-inch Surface Book 2 model, which was previously $ 1,500 for its entry-level configuration with a seventh-generation Core i5, 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, and integrated Intel HD Graphics only. Now you can configure the entry-level model with a 128 GB SSD and only spend $ 1,200, an even greater saving of $ 300. You will be limited in storage, but you can also add a MicroSD card to expand storage if things get too tight. In the meantime, you’ll enjoy the same super high-quality pop-off screen, a cutting-edge stylus, and a great keyboard and touchpad.

We will note that there are other laptops and 2-in-1s that you can buy for this kind of price. However, if you want the unique beauty of the Surface Laptop or the unmatched flexibility of the Surface Book 2, then at least now you can buy in either line for a price that won’t make your bank account cry.
